PROGENIKINE

INTRODUCING PROGENIKINE. AN ADIPOSE CONCENTRATING SYSTEM BY EMCYTE CORPORATION.

In an effort to bring to our patients choices to treat their painful conditions, we continue to add different modalities of treatment that we feel may offer hope for their conditions. Today we are introducing a product from the very reputable Emcyte Corporation.

The Progenikine Device.

This device prepares a purified, emulsified and condensed adipose treatment sample. It is designed to remove inflammatory oil and infranatant contaminants from the lipoaspirate quickly and completely, leaving a clinically pure treatment sample for discriminating practitioners. The adipose treatment sample contains powerful and viable progenitor cells with capacity for self-renewal and pluripotent that give rise to cell lineages that includes adipocytes, chondrocytes, myocytes, osteoblast and neurocytes. This may be helpful in the treatment of arthritic conditions, spine conditions and sports injuries.

The Progenikine device is placed in the centrifuge filled with lipoaspirate,to separate and condense the adipose and isolate oil and infranatant contaminants. By the proximal aspiration port we remove the oil contaminants and by the base aspiration port we remove infranatant contaminant. The adipose concentrate is prepared in less than five minutes.

These adipose samples are used at our office to treat patient of all ages that suffer from orthopedic conditions, spine conditions and sports injuries when more conservative measures such as physical therapy, cortisone, viscous supplementation etc. have failed and the patient is still in pain but does not want or can not have surgery.

Why fat to treat orthopedic conditions, spine conditions and sports injuries?

Many researchers going back many years have been studying the healing power of fat. Even as a patient ages, their fat retains it reparative qualities. Fat has more reparative cells than any other tissues. Since the fat is harvested from your own body, there is no chance of rejection. Adipose derived MSCs are being used for the treatment of musculoskeletal conditions, spine conditions and sorts injuries because they undergo homing to sites of inflammation or tissue injury and they secrete massive levels of bioactive agents that are both immunomodulatory and trophic. Adipose is recognized to poses the greatest microvascular organ in the body. Many scientific papers suggest that adipose-derived stromal cells of mesodermal origen provide between 1000 and 2500 the actual number found in bone marrow. With the easy collection of adipose tissue, less penetration, widely heterogeneous cellular population and important immune-privilege properties, subdermal fat deposits serve as a primary source for gathering mesenquimal cells.

What should I expect after the procedure?

Immediately following an adipose procedure, your site of injection will probably be more sore then the harvesting location. The local anesthesia used will wears off and over the counter pain medication such as Tylenol will be all you need.

Centrifugation.

Progenikine uses centrifugal separation to condense adipose and isolate oil and infranatant contaminants. The device prepares adipose concentrate in less than five minues. Centrifugation eliminates the need for process decanting; however process decanting is still used to help replace effluent fluid with adipose

Excerpt of FDA letter to the CEO of Emcyte corporations:

“We have reviewed your Section 510(k) premarket notification of intent to market the device referenced above and have determined the device is substantially equivalent (for the indications for use stated in the enclosure) to legally marketed predicate devices marketed in interstate commerce prior to May 28, 1976, the enactment date of the Medical Device Amendments, or to devices that have been reclassified in accordance with the provisions of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (Act) that do not require approval of a premarket approval application (PMA). You may, therefore, market the device, subject to the general control provisions of the Act.”

Department of health and Human Services of the FDA indications for use:

“The Progenikine Concentrating System is used in medical procedures involving the harvesting and transferring of autologous adipose tissue. The Progenikine® Concentrating System is used for concentrating adipose tissue harvested with a legally marketed lipoplasty system. The Progenikine Concentrating System is intended for use in the following surgical specialties when the concentration of harvested adipose tissue is desired.
Neurosurgery, Gastrointestinal Surgery, Urological Surgery, Plastic and Re-constructive Surgery, General Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Gynecological Surgery, Laparoscopic Surgery, Arthroscopic Surgery.”

Disclaimer:

Like any other treatment using any medical devise, there are success and failure. Indivudual result vary. Not everyone gets the desired result.

Adicen Micro-fragmentation.

Adicen is a three face micro-fagmentation divice that emulsifies the fat sample into macrofat (MA 2.4 mm), microfat (MI 1.4 mm) and nanofat (NA 1.2 mm) in a single accessory device simple to use. It makes the injection of ft easy using a small gauge needle helping provide support and cushioning to the treated area.
