Business Bio: Edward Dieguez Jr. M.D.

Education and background.

Dr. Dieguez Jr. is an Anesthesiologist/Interventional Pain Specialist and a Fellow of the Interventional Orthobiologic Foundation. He has practiced in Saint Augustine since 1988.  He is a graduate of the prestigious European University of Santiago de Compostela School of Medicine in Spain, a University founded over five hundred years ago in 1495.  Coincidentally, this was the same medical school that his maternal grandfather had graduated from in 1906. Not very long ago, its University Hospital was on the news for treating the victims of the most deadly high speed train accident in Spain's history.  After graduation, Dr. Dieguez served as an unpaid intern in the Department of Surgery at the University under the tutelage of Professor and Department Chairman Jose Luis Puente Dominguez, a member of the Royal Academy of Medicine and Surgery of Spain. Upon returning to the United States, he served as a surgical resident in Baltimore Maryland at a Johns Hopkins affiliated surgical program. Later he went on to the prestigious University of Miami, Florida, where he completed his Anesthesiology residency. 

Dr. Dieguez was born in Cuba and arrived in the United States as a child in 1964 completing in the US, his elementary education in the state of New Jersey and high school in the state of Alabama, before moving to Europe where he lived for eight years.

While in Saint Augustine.

In his 34 years in Saint Augustine, he initially practiced at the old Saint Augustine General Hospital. He provided anesthetic care and ICU care for all types of major surgical cases utilizing both general anesthesia and regional anesthesia. Later he joined the Flagler Hospital Department of Anesthesia, a department that he later chaired. While there, he was instrumental in organizing and recruiting physicians for the first clinic in Saint Johns County dedicated to the treatment of painful acute and chronic musculoskeletal and arthritic and spine conditions. As an Anesthesiologist and with his surgical background, he has always being dedicated to the relief of suffering from acute and chronic musculoskeletal painful conditions utilizing his skills in regional anesthesia and surgery.  

Taking care of patients is what he loves! He wants to provide care to the many patients that he has cared for along the years, many of which have become personal friends. 

Dr. Dieguez Jr., while still holding staff privileges at Flagler Hospital, and continuing to meet all state requirements to practice medicine in the state of Florida, will be seeing patients only in his new office. He will care for patients suffering from both acute and chronic musculoskeletal, orthopedic conditions, sport injuries and spine conditions, that can benefit from the most advanced technology such as minimally invasive injection procedures using Orthobiologics such as Platelet Rich Plasma, BMC/MSC and Progenikine. He also uses Prolotherapy with Hypertonic Dextrose and also rarely nanogram dose Steroid Injections. The office is open Monday thru Thursday and his staff will be at the office handling call and scheduling patient from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Fridays we are closed. We also close for lunch Monday thru Thursday Noon to 1:00 PM  Dr. Dieguez see patients Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Cutting Edge Technology. 

He strongly believes in bringing to his patient other alternative instead of prescribing addictive controlled substances such as Opioids and others. As of July first of 2019 it is required by the Florida legislator that patient be offered these alternative for their treatment of their joint and or spine painful conditions. The goal is to try to address the opioid abuse problem we have in Florida.

We are proud to offer to our patients Interventional Orthobiologic Medicine techniques using autologous orthobiologics such as BMAC, Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP),  Progenikine and other techniques using natural products such as hypertonic dextrose Prolotherapy injections. He will offer also other precision guided injections for joint and spine conditions using minimal nanogram dose of steroids, in addition to Electrotherapy,  and also orthotics that can be very beneficial for certain conditions.
